We've teamed up with Houston Biodiesel to offer Purolite PD206 dry wash resin and ION resin tower plans. The resin beads by themselves don't really help you out without a detailed explanation of how to use them. That's where Houston Biodiesel comes in. They have been perfecting homebrew applications with Purolite PD206 for over a year now and have developed tower plans and instructions specifically for the homebrewer. We strongly recommend you purchase a set of plans for the Ion Resin
Towers on your first purchase of resin beads. Incorrect usage of the resin will result
in a less than satisfactory performance.
Usage:
In a perfect scenario each pound of resin can purify up to 250 gallons
of unwashed biodiesel. Backyard Biodiesel Brewers can expect to get 100
gallons out of a pound of resin. If you do better than 100 gallons then
you are doing well. Cost to purify your biodiesel is about 10 cents per
gallon. How fast you use the PD206 depends upon the quality of your
homebrew. For instance if you don't do a good job in glycerin
separation you will burn up your resin in a hurry. Water also does a
great job spending your resin. Detailed homebrew use instructions come
with each order of resin or tubes.
The 2 in Resin Tower was specifically developed with homebrewers in mind. Every effort was made to keep the cost of construction down while still performing at maximum efficiency. Each 2 in Resin Tower can hold one pound of PD206 resin. Houston Biodiesel recommends four of the two inch resin towers for optimal performance. Three will be operational and one as a hot swappable spare. When set up in this arrangement you will be able to clean 0.75 gallons of biodiesel an hour. Each additional tube will increase the flow by 0.25 gallons per hour. Each tube will require two screens and one pound of Purolite PD206 resin. The plans come with four screens, so to build four towers you will need four more screens. You will need to purchase some PVC piping, some clear tubing, a needle valve, and a small ball valve. These items are available in most plumbing supply outlets.
